The Sığla Trees |
|||
|
Günlük (Sığla) trees are unique to the Köyceğiz and Marmaris wet lands and are rarely found anywhere else in the world. At Köyceğiz, the forest of these trees is to the west and the east of the town and is protected by the Forestry Authority. The Sığla tress have been listed as a protected endemic species. They are also grown in the Yunus Emre Arboretum on the left side of the road at the entrance to Marmaris, where they are also protected. Did you know that you can extract oil from the Sığla tree? Moreover, this oil is good for killing parasites, heals stomach problems and is used in medicines. And did you know the fact that Turkey is one of the only two countries – the other being Honduras - that produce sığla oil? |
