Yalıçiftlik, Çiftlikköy

On the way back from Torba or from the Bodrum centre one day can be spared for the newly developing holiday centres of Yalıçiftlik and Çiftlikköy. Yalıçiftlik is on the road to Kızılağaç and at the entrance of the Gulf of Gökova and possibly the best seas of Bodrum are in the small coves to be found here. In the coves of Pabuç and Kargıcık, the most popular with Bodrum locals in the past, there are now high quality hotels and holiday resorts. The daily boat and yacht tours find an indent in these coves to have their breaks. The hill sloping down to the coves have many walking trails that have a brilliant scenery. The village of Çiftik is inland. It is large with many districts.

The village style life continues here. However, slowly people from the cities have begun building villas in the area. On the top of the hill above the Alazeytin district of the village are the ruins of the ancient city of the Syangela. You can get to the ruins by a 20 minutes walk through the olive trees from the end of the Alazeytin district. What remains from the ancient city are houses and other buildings. There is also the remains of the city of Theangela nearby, on a hill one kilometre above the Mumcular-Bodrum road in the Etrim district. The path leading from the village to the hill is very steep and the walk takes some time. It is recommended to take guides from the village. But the ruins on the top are worth the effort. If you want some energetic activity, if it is not too hot and you have the time, such an hike might be interesting.

While you go to Yalıçiftlik or Çiftlikköy you can stop in Mumcular and buy some olive oil. On the way there or back take the turn for the signpost Dostlar’ın Yeri and Süleyman Top. Here you can sample Bodrum’s "cırık". It is a fried chicken dish cooked with the skin and bones of the chicken along with onions and tomatoes. It is a served with village made bread.
